UNOCCUPIED HOUSE INSURANCE

WHAT IS UNOCCUPIED HOUSE INSURANCE?

With standard home insurance you are allowed to leave your home unoccupied for a maximum period of time, which is normally 30 days.

If you plan to leave your home empty for longer than this, you should consider unoccupied home insurance also known as empty home insurance. This is available for three, six, nine or twelve months, often with the choice of extending the term if you need to.

With this type of policy, you can leave your home unoccupied, and protect the building and contents for as long as the policy is operating.

WHY DO I NEED UNOCCUPIED HOUSE INSURANCE?

Unoccupied House Insurance could be the right choice if you need to live somewhere else whilst you are having major work done to your home. Or, you could be on an extended holiday or a long period of travel. Perhaps the insurance is needed for a home which you are waiting to sell, for example, the result of an inheritance.

Whatever the reason for needing unoccupied house insurance, it’s important to ensure that you have the right cover, appropriate for your needs, in place, to ensure your unoccupied home is fully protected.
